Network System Administrator

HealthCare IT, Inc. is looking for candidates who are qualified to provide systems administration support for a variety of systems and applications in our new Rockville, MD data center.  Specifically, the candidate should possess demonstrated skills and experience in the installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of Linux based virtual guests operating on VM/ESX based virtual host systems.  Critical systems administration skills include:

  • Installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of a VM/ESX based virtual host server complex including the management of virtual machines, performance monitoring, and load balancing
  • Experience with rapidly copying, re-configuring, and deploying VMs to support hosting customer orders
  • Maintaining system and network configuration control documentation
  • Experience installing and maintaining LAMPP software stack
  • Experience with installing and configuring open source system and network management and monitoring tools such as Hyperic or comparable commercial products
  •  Experience in installing and configuring typical Linux server components (BIND, X, PostGRES, OpenLDAP, DNS, etc.) using automated package manager (YUM) and/or manual install
  • Experience supporting J2EE production environments
  • Experience installing, configuring, operating, and maintaining one or more of the following typical web application servers: IBM WebSphere Application Server, JBOSS, and/or Apache Tomcat
  • Experience setting up and managing clustered web servers and load balancers
  • Experience installing, configuring, operating, maintaining one or more of the following common database systems: Oracle, DB2, MySQL, and/or PostgreSQL
  • Experience in developing, implementing, executing, and monitoring backup and restore procedures for user directories, databases, and system files
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, email, anti-virus, anti-spam
  • Experience in installing and configuring Samba and OpenVPN
  • Hardware experience to include installing and supporting (Intel based) Sun and IBM systems, installing and configuring SANs and NAS, installing and configuring tape systems, developing and executing tape backup processes and off-site tape storage procedures

We prefer candidates who also possess some basic network administration skills including:

  • Installing, configuring, operating and maintaining typical 3-tier, redundant, switch fabric using Cisco and/or DLink switches
  • Installing, configuring, operating, and maintaining security appliances such as Cisco PIX and ASA firewalls and VPN Concentrators. (We will consider candidates’ equivalent experience with Juniper, DLink and/or Foundry equipment)  

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Three or more years experience with building and supporting of Linux based VMWare virtual guests
  • Degree is preferred but not required.  In lieu of a college degree, applicants may submit for consideration any relevant dated certifications
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and execute administrative task for new technologies
  •  Demonstrated customer service acumen to include providing support via phone, email, and instant messenger/chat
  • Effective time management, organizational, and record keeping skills especially with respect to configuration control and change management
  • Experience in supporting public sector and commercial customers
  • Experience in HIPAA and 21CFR Part 11 compliant IT operations is a plus, but not required
  • Must be able to perform some moderate physical activity associated with network cable management and network installation
